Omega
Alpha and Sandridge Saddlery Sponsor the Programme de développement
de l’excellence
The
Programme de développement de l’excellence has acquired the
support of two new sponsors: Sandridge Saddlery and
Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals Inc. The goal of this
program, which is run by the Fédération équestre du Québec (FEQ), is
to support promising athletes in the three Olympic equestrian
disciplines: dressage, eventing and show jumping. Riders are
categorized as Espoir, Relève, Élite
or Excellence and receive bursaries and tax credits accordingly.
Mr.
Richard Mongeau, General Manager of the FEQ, maintains that the new
money will help to increase the number of activities offered to
athletes selected for the 2010 program. Training camps, divided into
theoretical and personalized practical sessions, will be held and
structured according to an athlete’s discipline and category. These
sessions will be held in the spring with the goal of preparing for
the upcoming show season.
It is
not unusual that these two successful businesses would lend their
support to a program that officially recognizes tomorrow’s
up-and-coming equestrian stars. Tracey Dickson, President of
Sandridge Saddlery, has been a long-time supporter of riders
competing in regional and provincial competitions and is very
pleased and excited to now be contributing towards the development
of elite equestrian athletes in Quebec. In addition to the
sponsorship money, Ms. Dickson has also promised to provide all
selected riders with a 20% store discount card, which can be used
towards all purchases. Omega Alpha is an equally enthusiastic
supporter of the FEQ’s Programme de développement de l’excellence.
Patti Hanco, Omega Alpha’s equine division representative maintains,
“It is very important for us to support athletes at all levels. This
new partnership will allow us to build relationships with riders in
dressage, eventing and show jumping. We will be attending different
shows throughout the summer and look forward to meeting the athletes
in the program.”
This
year, the FEQ received 84 applications from riders of all
disciplines. Selection committee members Josée Turcotte (show
jumping), Lorraine Laframboise (eventing), Caroline Pépin (dressage)
along with FEQ technical coordinator Paul Bélanger met to select
athletes from 84 applications for the 2010 program. |

THE EPONA FOUNDATION

Epona Riders and Staff - Christmas 2004
Founded in 2005, the Epona Foundation is dedicated to instructing inner-city
children how to ride and care for ponies and horses. Their brand-new facility
houses over 25 loved and spoiled lesson ponies exclusively for Epona and Pony
Club.
Teaching our future equestrian riders how to do everything properly takes time,
manpower, and a lot of dedication. Youths chosen for the program also enjoy
tutoring at school to help them achieve their scholastic goals.
Epona hosted a very successful open house in October 2005 where they welcomed
the equestrian community to their new dome arena and stable facility.
